Camel trek desert activity in the Merzouga desert with 3-night of camp
The Merzouga Desert is the most spectacular part of the Moroccan desert. Here you can have the best desert experience ever. The dunes of Erg Chebbi, just south of Merzouga, with their 150-meter height, are the most popular one between the dunes of north Africa. Also, it’s the gateway to the big Moroccan Sahara, so the discovery of the big Sahara is incomplete without stopping at the Merzouga desert.
Marrakech and Merzouga are 550 kilometers apart and the journey takes just over 10 hours, so it is better to spend one or more nights to fully enjoy the beauty of the desert and spend an unforgettable time.
First night in the Merzouga Desert (Erg Chebbi)
Our camel riding adventure starts in the morning after breakfast or in the afternoon from your hotel. We cross the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi in 2:30 – 03 hours / 15-20 km. The camels will be equipped with all the necessary food and hiking gear for a pleasant night in the desert under nomads’ tents and shooting stars… In a beautiful oasis, about 20km from the Algerian border, you’ll take a short break before climbing a large dune to admire the sunset and enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of the entire region, where the horizon is endless… Afterward, have a mint tea (our Berber whisky) followed by a local dinner to drumming music by the magical fire. In the morning, after watching the sunrise and drinking mint tea, you’ll return to your starting point for breakfast, a shower, and to complete the trek.
Second night in the Merzouga Desert (Erg Chebbi)
Departure from this second-day desert leg takes place after sunrise on the first night. After breakfast, we will start crossing this arid desert plateau to spend our second night with a local nomadic family, after the two-hour trek, lunch at a small oasis in the shade of palm or tamarisk trees. We continue through this magnificent contrast of orange dunes and black desert with volcanic rocks, passing several nomadic families where we spend the night with dinner and breakfast. The night is spent in a small room or nomadic tent. The next day, after breakfast, we return to our starting point on a three-hour trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Third night in the Merzouga Desert (Erg Chebbi)
The third night in the desert is a continuation of the previous two. This trip starts after breakfast with nomads at leisure. We drive to a small oasis and an abandoned village in the middle of the black desert. After a two-hour trek, we’ll have a picnic lunch on the way or with other nomads in tents. We will then continue our adventure and spend our last night in a lodge, mountain camp, or with locals – the choice is yours. After breakfast, we will return to the starting point the next day. After a two-hour hike, lunch at a local restaurant or a picnic. Finally, we return to the hotel to finish this adventure in the afternoon and complete our services.
